We're to propose a chain model for how an L2 station grows. I see this mainly as pertains to Venus' since that's the one I've constrained by power-intake.
As larger toroi are added, they'll want to spin all the links that much less. The last link may be slowed such that even a Martian won't want it. Suppose, though, L2 might acquire a new wider torus to slip around the old link. In fact, let's have that as how we add the wider links up front.
The new torus is assembled attached to the ice, facing the foremost torus in the chain. When this torus is assembled up front, detach the backmost link from the tail. Move that to the front. Detach the foremost torus; thread that into the smallest torus now frontmost. Detach new torus from ice; spin it; weld it into the foremost.
We'll know it all gets too long when it's dragging the shield off L2, costing it propellant it needs to sell elsewhere. We detach the last link, speed it up a bit and yo: colony. We'll discuss where it can go, also tomorrow.
