It is also more expensive than just killing a chicken.
It is not more expensive than, say, killing a rhino. So if you wanted bushmeat, you can have your bushmeat. Or, if you've seen the younger Cronenberg's Antiviral...
This is, yes, good news for our open spaces and for those of us tired of livestock-based epidemics. I can see it being helpful on other planets' colonies. I am unsure that this will be the ethical leap forward as we are promised.
