Bad incentives murder scientody. Money is an incentive. People on one side will point to the money on the other side to prove that other side's inherent corruption. So let's talk about the climate dispute, on which money goes where.
To whit: carbon-industry funding in this field. Okay then. Is the other side disinterested?
Into climate-science, some of the money is coming from people with oceanfront property and agriculture, perhaps; but most of it is coming from rent seekers. Some want to leech off the economy, dressing it up as Keynes. Some would redirect the human need to express faith in material terms, chasing the ebb of "organised religions" (meaning, Christianity). Michael Moore's Planet of the Humans details these tendencies.
A good contrast is with genetics, another field into which much Funding is being invested - and also controversial, to some. In genetics, the money is coming from people who want to fix diseases, secondarily to explain ancient population movements. Those who find this Problematic cannot get their foot in.
