On Epistles 30 and 51

I felt it proper to bundle the Narsai-Maremmeh letters together, since (per #51) they belong with the post-Babay Izla corpus, where we know Mar Habiba rules and with Dazonwai being a consistent wingman. As to what help Scott-Moncrieff offered: "XXVIII" was just wrong and "XLIX" was unhelpful.

These two are sent after #17 inasmuch as communications are restored. Narsai and Maremmeh weren't worth mentioning up to now; that, or they're the people temporarily run off their mountain. Thomas of Marga 2.11 quotes a letter by Bishop Ishoʿyahb commending Narsai which - translator Budge knows p. 176 n.1 - #30 and 51 do not.

I expect Maremmeh, at least, will become worth mentioning. After all, the Catholicos Ishoʿyahb III preserved these letters. He looks to be this guy prior to #52.

FOLLOWUP 2/16: On Habiba and on Narsai.

FIEY 4/16/23: E. LI is footnoted ch. IV, p. 326 in French. E. XXX is not discussed.
